Pat Menter, 83, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the Grandview Heights Care Center in Marshalltown while under care of Iowa Hospice. Visitation for Pat will be Monday, September 6, 2010, from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown where her family will be present to greet friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Following burial there will be a reception at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home for all family and friends. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com Pat was born November 5, 1926, in Nevada, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Eddy and Bertha Scott and was the oldest of six children. Patricia was raised in Colo, Nevada and Rhodes, Iowa, and graduated from the Rhodes High School. While raising her family, Pat also worked as a seamstress creating many dancing costumes and dresses. On July 16, 1975, Pat was united in marriage to Jim Menter. Pat worked at the Marshall County Care Facility for many years and retired as a supervisor in the Laundry Department. Pat enjoyed many things in her life. She had a green thumb and was especially good at raising very large tulips. She was very friendly with everyone she met and was quick to help others anyway she could. Pat loved her cats and her dog and even served as a mid-wife to a cat which had trouble having her kittens in the proper way. Pat was quick with a come-back, was always smiling and genuinely loved talking to people. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed listening to music. Pat was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Order of the Eastern Star. Pat is survived by her two sons: Marshall (Connie) McDowell of Boone, Iowa and Foster (Elaine) McDowell of Garwin, Iowa, her step-son Dave (Bonnie) Menter of Marshalltown, her step-daughter Cathy Menter of Marshalltown, her two sisters: Mavis Brown of Marshalltown and Leola (Larry) Wright of Ackley, Iowa, her brother: Allan (Carol) Eddy of LeGrand, Iowa, one grandson Christopher McDowell of Memphis, Tennessee, several step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Bertha, her husband Jim Menter, and her two brothers: Leonard (Marienne) Eddy of Phoenix, Arizona and Harry Glenn (Evelyn) Eddy of Rhodes, Iowa.
