Patricia “Pat” Brown,78, of Marshalltown passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025 at Iowa River Hospice.
Pat was born on July 2, 1947 in Lexington, Kentucky to F. Garvin and Katye Lou Davenport. The family moved to Monmouth, Illinois where Pat graduated from high school in 1965. Pat graduated from Hamline University with a degree in Speech and Theater in 1969 and later received her master’s in Early Childhood Education from Mankato State in 1985.
Pat and her family relocated to Marshalltown in 1986, where she began working at Marshalltown Community College. It is hard to put into words the impact that Pat had on students, faculty and staff during her 25 years of teaching at MCC. She was often referred to as one of the “favorites” as an instructor and will leave behind an educational legacy.
Pat found joy in watching her grandchildren play sports and attended their activities until she was no longer able to. Regardless of her memory’s decline, she would always light up when her grandchildren were visiting. Pat’s love for nurturing young lives was apparent anytime she interacted with children.
Pat was a genuine friend to many, with friendships lasting well over 50 years. She enjoyed attending Iowa State sports activities, musical and theater performances. She could be found perusing sales racks in department stores for the best deals or tracking down an antique piece to complete her Monmouth Pottery collections.
She is survived by her children: Libby (Tom Deimerly) Brown of Marshalltown and Jason (Reann) Brown of Des Moines; her grandchildren: Jackson Bowie, Kinsley Bowie and Delilah Brown; her brother, F. Garvin Davenport of St. Paul, Minnesota along with his three sons and their families: F. Garvin III, Greg, and Paul Davenport. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Bernice Davenport.
The family would like to thank Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad and the Iowa River Hospice for the loving care they provided.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 11:30 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Following the service, cremation will take place. Pat will be laid to rest at a later date in Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery in Monmouth, Illinois. To pay tribute to Pat and to support her lifelong love for education, memorials can be made to the Marshalltown Community College Foundation or Hamline University.
