The bright and shining soul of Patricia “Pat” Fowler, age 67, of Marshalltown, Iowa, left her earthly home and entered into the gates of Heaven on Sunday evening, June 18, 2023. She passed at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames a brief battle with cancer.
Family, faith and education were Pat’s core values and she wore them on her sleeve. Born Patricia Ann White on October 25, 1955 in Marshalltown, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edward Joseph and Mary Marcella “Sally” (Fitzpatrick) White. After meeting the love of her life, Randy Fowler, they were united in marriage on June 16, 1984 at St. Mary Catholic Church. The couple was blessed with two beautiful daughters and have shared a wonderful life together, filled with laughter and love.
Pat’s faith radiated to all those around her. A devout member of St. Francis Parish: St. Mary Catholic Church, she also served on the Parish Council and was a part of the women’s bible study. She made a point of saying the Rosary every single day. Pat taught her family to live by faith and the importance of giving back to the community. She volunteered at Iowa River Hospice and on the Riverside Cemetery Board.
Education was also incredibly important to Pat. After her graduation from Marshalltown High School in 1973, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Northern Iowa. She then graduated with her Master’s Degree in Education from Drake University in Des Moines. Pat enriched the lives of hundreds of children over 32 years in the Marshalltown School District, where she taught 8th grade mathematics.
In her free time, Pat enjoyed listening to music, attending Irish concerts, and playing with her dogs. She was so great at staying connected with people, spending hours every day on the phone with different family members. Pat always put others first and made sure that everyone else was happy. Even near the end, she asked her loved ones not to worry about her. She was kind, selfless and compassionate and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 39 years and 2 days, Randy; her daughters: Katy (Trevor) Harvey of Kansas City, KS and Mary Fowler of Des Moines, IA; two precious grandsons: Jackson and Lucas Harvey; her siblings: Kathy (Andy) Miller, Kevin White, Sheila Fisher, Brian (Jill) White and Michael (Jannie) White; father-in-law George Fowler; two aunts: Mary Station and Helen Stamper; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In eternal life, Pat is reunited with her parents, Edward and Mary and her mother-in-law Martha Fowler.
Mass of Christian Burial for Pat will take place on Friday, June 23 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown. She will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary and Vigil beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
