Patricia "Pat" Orris

Patricia “Pat” Orris, 83, of Marshalltown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at UnityPoint Marshalltown with her son, Jeff and daughter Julie by her side.

A visitation for Pat will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will follow the visitation at Graceland Cemetery in Laurel and then a Celebration of Life will be held by the family at 12:30 p.m. at the Laurel United Methodist Church. Patricia Reese was born on September 24, 1941 in Jewell, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jack and Stella (Franklin) Reese. Pat graduated from Jewell High School in 1959. On September 4, 1960, Pat was united in marriage to Wilbur Frericks. They later would divorce but remained lifelong friends. Pat worked at State Farm as a support and claims representative until her retirement in 2004. Her memories with co-workers while traveling on storm relief were always memorable fun. Later in life, she worked at Hy-Vee in Waukee where she enjoyed providing food samples for shoppers and enjoying every conversation with them. Pat enjoyed a good cup of coffee, HGTV, having wine with friends at her townhome, lunch with friends and watching college basketball, especially the Iowa State Cyclones (ISU). Julie and Pat attended several ISU games and her picture with Cy was a special night. Pat’s most cherished moments were those spent with her family (Jeff and Sue, Julie and Arch, Wilbur). Birthday parties, cookouts, shopping outings (sometimes long ones with Jeff in which she thought she would never get home) and mother/daughter trips to Arkansas. The family was blessed to take a vacation and share a home together in Phoenix, Arizona for a month where many fond memories were made. Pat loved music and dancing. Her big smile, sharp outfits and beautiful demeanor lit up a room. She was a very classy lady, social butterfly and a true friend to so many. She was always there when you needed her and loved sending birthday cards. While she was in the Intensive Care Unit at the University of Iowa she made sure Jeff or Julie wished her friends Happy Birthday on Facebook, always thinking of others. She loved all of the cards her friends sent while in at the University of Iowa and it made her time there better.

The “grand-dogs” were always a special part of Pat’s life and even though she tried to not pick favorites Batch, Jeff’s dog, and all the memories from puppyhood to death were very special to her.

So many tears have been shared since we lost her and so many more tough days ahead. Pat, “Mom” would want us to live life to the fullest like she did and we will make her proud by just doing that.

Pat is survived by her children: Julie (Arch) Allison of Marshalltown and Jeff (Sue) Frericks of Marshalltown. She is also survived by her sister: Deloris Landreth, numerous nieces and nephews and her life-long friend: Wilbur Frericks.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents: Jack and Stella and siblings: Jackie Reese, Virginia Solberg, Lorraine Hagen and Robert (Doris) Reese.
