Patricia "Patty" Gauerke

Patricia Ann Gauerke, 65, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Unity Point Health-Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after several health complications. A celebration of life held by the family will be on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at Dave’s Bar- 207 E. Main Street in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Patty and her family. Patricia Ann Simbides was born on May 21, 1954 in Marshalltown to George Simbides and Evelyn Pinta-Coffin. Patty graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1973. She was united in marriage to Michael Gauerke and they later divorced. Later, she married David Robinette and he passed away in 2011. Patty faced many difficulties in her life. When she was only 9 years old, she was in a tragic car accident and was the only survivor. She later was diagnosed with Polio and faced many other health issues. Patty had worked in advertising and retail as well as a stay at home mother. She enjoyed traveling, listening to music (50’s, 60’s and 70’s), dancing, soap operas, showing and riding horses and most importantly spending time with loved ones, especially her granddaughter Chelsa. Patty is survived by her children: Che (Tiffany) Gauerke of Randall, Iowa and Cody Payne of Northwest Iowa; granddaughter: Chelsa; sister: Debbie (Mike) Alman of Marshalltown; friend/caretaker: Michael Gauerke; cousins: Rita Graves, Steve Simbides, Carol Ealy and extended nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. Patty is preceded in death by her husband David, parents George and Evelyn; brother: James “Jimmy” Simbides; grandmother: Helen Simbides; aunt and uncle: Fred and Marie Simbides and niece Amber Shively.
