Patricia “Pat” Stickfort, age 86 of The Willows of Marshalltown, passed away the evening of Sunday, April 5, 2026, under the care of Suncrest Hospice.
Born Patricia Lucille White, the only child born to John W. and Loverna (Taylor) White. She attended various school districts, graduating with the class of 1958 from Newton High School.
Patricia was united in marriage with Irvin Spence. From this union, she was blessed with three children: Annette, Calvin, and Andrea.
Patricia had a big heart, and opened her home and heart to other children over the years. She legally adopted her daughter, April Ayers, and took in April’s brother as one of her own as well, Stacy Ayers.
Patricia worked as a bank teller during her early working years, starting in Keokuk and later in Marshalltown. Most of her working years were spent at Wolfe Eye Clinic in Marshalltown in the messenger department; she retired in 2010 after nearly 20 years.
On March 16, 1996, Patricia married the love of her life, John W. “Jack” Stickfort at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Patricia and Jack shared many wonderful memories over the years, including roller skating, playing music together, attending concerts, bands, and plays. They loved playing games with their family. They enjoyed card games, Sequence, King’s Corner, and others. Jack would get a little more wound up than Pat during family game nights, where she would give the others a wink when someone was accused of cheating or not playing quick enough.
Patricia was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she often played the keyboard. She knew every birthday or special event date, and would gift a homemade card and sometimes a homemade birthday cake. She was a wonderful baker and cook, aside from the cakes, she was known for her banana nut bread, meatloaf and more tasty dishes. When you left Patricia’s house, you were guaranteed to have a full belly! She also loved fashion and getting dolled up; she almost always had her nails painted and was put together whenever she left the house.
In death, Patricia is reunited with her parents, John and Loverna; her husband, Jack, who passed away in June of 2023; and her sister at heart, Lois LaRue. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Annette (Dave) Hansen of Norwalk, Calvin Spence of Marshalltown, Andrea (Richard) LaBass of TX, April Ayers of Marshalltown, and Stacy (Jennifer) Ayers of Marshalltown; her step-children: Jeff (Sonya) Stickfort of TX, Rose (Jim) Evjen of TX, Pamela (Kirk) Clouse of LA, and Greg (Shelley) Stickfort of Monticello; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; along with numerous extended family members and friends at The Willows.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be directed to the family for later designation.
