Cremation rites have been accorded and there are no services pending at this time. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Patrick and his family. Patrick Derwood Crawford was born in Burnet, Burnet County, TX on May 1, 1938. He was a resident of the VA nursing home in Marshalltown, Iowa at the time of his death. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on February, 14, 2015 after a long brave battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Pat was a Christian who was devoted to serving his Lord through attendance at the Baptist Church. His primary goal in life was to serve his Lord in Christian service wherever he identified needs that he could meet. His favorite song was Because He Lives. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Maxine and Ralph Crawford, and brother, James Edward Crawford of Burnet. He is survived by one maternal aunt and one uncle: Marie Wear Pirtle of Austin, TX and Roy Edward Wear of Denver, CO and two paternal aunts and one uncle: Grace and Charles Crawford of Bellville, TX and Pauline Crawford of Victoria, TX. He is also survived by a large number of Crawford and Wear cousins. (The Crawford and Wear Families are both natives of the small community of Burnet, TX.) Pat attended grade school in both Burnet and and the neighboring town of Bertram. After high school graduation from Bertram High, he attended Durham Business College in Austin, TX where he majored in accounting. After the Korean War and before the Vietnam War, he enlisted and served in the Third Infantry Division of the US Army in Wurzburg, Germany as an E-4 Company Clerk. He had the opportunity to advance in rank but he chose not to because he liked his work as company clerk. During his time in Germany, he fulfilled his lifetime dream of traveling to various neighboring European countries. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Pat lived and worked as an accountant for two years and as a book editor in New York City. His office was located on 5th Avenue and overlooked Central Park. Living in New York City fulfilled another lifetime dream of Pats to live in his favorite American city. While living there, he was able to attend many concerts and theatrical productions and to travel to surrounding cities. Pat moved back to Texas in 1965. He lived in Dallas, TX and worked as a commercial loan officer at The Oak Hill Bank and Trust. During that time in Dallas, he met and married Susan Price on December 15, 1965. Following their marriage Pat and Susan moved to Susans home state of Iowa. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Pat worked as a cost accountant for the Wilson Meat Packing Company. He retired after 22 years of service to Wilson and after he became physically disabled with Muscular Dystrophy. During their 23 years of marriage, Pat and Susan were devoted to various Christian service opportunities through the Baptist church they attended. When it became necessary for Pats parents to reside in Oaks Nursing Home in Burnet, Pat assumed the responsibility for the daily care of his disabled brother, James Edward. For over a number of years, Pat and James Edward devoted their time to Christian evangelistic volunteer work. Together, they had a ministry where they distributed Christian tracts and Bibles to truck stops, visitor centers, and telephone booths in Iowa and across the United States. Pat did the driving and coordination of distribution, and James Edward followed Pats supervision and carried the materials inside the sites for distribution.
