Mr. Pat Peter, 78, of Marshalltown died Sunday morning, July 13th, at his home. A memorial celebration of Pats life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19th, at St. Henrys Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Braak officiating. With respect to Pats wishes, please come casual and to share laughs. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed in his memory to St. Henry's Catholic Church or the Peter family. Born on July 23, 1929, in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, he was the son of Albert and Christine (Earl) Peter. His parents died at a young age and Pat was adopted by his dads brother and wife, John and Rosella. He received his education in Saskatchewan and Regina at a boarding school. He was also in the Canadian Naval Reserves and served as a Lieutenant. At age 18, he jumped a freight train to Winnipeg to start work for Swift Canadian. It was a lifelong career that took him to Winnipeg, Moose Jaw, Toronto and South St. Paul, MN. until moving to Marshalltown in November of 1969. He retired as a hog consultant. On April 22, 1977, the Peter family made their citizenship in the United States. Pat also bartended at the Thunderbird and Elmwood and at the time of his death was employed with the Vogel Family of Funeral Homes. Pat enjoyed golf, sitting on the deck of his backyard, telling corny jokes, watching the Twins and Vikings and treasured his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Jamesina Ena Peter of Marshalltown, son John Peter of Marshalltown, daughter Bonnie (Roy) Auldridge of Port Aransas, Texas, and Mike (Marla) Peter of Des Moines,five grandchildren- Alex, Shelby and Mackenzie, Roy III, and Gina, one great-granddaughter Madison, sister Betty Stephenson of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada,brother-in-law Alex (Betty) of Scotland, UK, and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, adopted parents, brother Gordon, and adopted sister Doris Dolmage.
