Paul Edwin Brees, Sr. 84, of 508 South 6th Street, Marshalltown, died Friday morning, August 31st, at his home while in care of his loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services celebrating Pauls life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 6th, at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Hannahs officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on March 14th, 1923, in Marshalltown, he was one of five children born to Sereno and Lottie May (Moore) Brees. He graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1941. Paul was a mechanic in Marshalltown for many years, working at International Harvester, Ford and retiring from Harkers. He treasured his grandchildren who always brought a smile to him when they did something mischievous, a big piece of chocolate cake, the fall season and his Papillion dogs Susie and Tammy. Paul enjoyed attending the Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 23 years, Darlene, his children: William (Kathy) Brees, Sr., of Howell, NJ., Sharon (Merlyn) Newburg of Lincoln, Iowa, and Paul E. Brees, Jr. of Grinnell, step-children: Mike Downs, Kathy Downs and Arthur Sonny Downs all of Marshalltown, Bobby Downs of Ft. Madison, Pamela (John) Pelham of State Center, Darla (Rick) Coon of South Dakota and Joel (Anita) Williams of Marshalltown, 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren, his brothers Frank (Marilyn) Brees of Marshalltown and Jim (Sally) Brees of Detroit, MI., several nieces, nephews, his dogs Susie and Tammy and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, brother Raymond and sister Virginia Davis.
