Paul Brees Jr

Paul Brees, Jr., age 72, of Grinnell, passed away on Friday, February 18th, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5th, at the Woodlawn Cemetery at Toledo. Condolences may be left at www.mitchellfh.com. Born on September 3rd, 1949, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Paul and Minnie (Braye) Brees, Sr. Following graduation, Paul attended mechanic’s school in Kansas City. His education was interrupted by the call to service. He served our country honorably in the United States Army during Viet Nam. Returning to his home state of Iowa following his military service, he was employed as a tree trimmer/worker at Crawford Tree Services in Grinnell and then at C and K Transportation from 1996 until retiring in 2018. Paul had a strong work ethic and spent countless hours working and also helping others. Paul enjoyed old cars, going to lunch at his favorite downtown café in Grinnell or KFC, cats (which he had a very soft heart for) and time with his family. He was married to Jill and to that union, a son Eric was born. Eric and his wife Kirsten Brewer were blessed with two children- Julia and Garrett. Paul also had a son Tony Tompkins in Colorado. He also has a half-brother, Bill Brees of Philadelphia, and a nephew Clayton (Andrea) Zednichek and Tracey David) Berendes and her family that loved and cared for Paul all of their lives. In death, Paul rejoined his parents, sister Sharon, half-brother Richard Braye and many other family and friends.
