Paul E. Halverson, 88, of Ferguson, died Tuesday, May 29, at the Iowa Veterans Home where he has resided since April of this year. By faith we know God has Paul in His arms and his family has him in their hearts. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He joined the United States Navy and served our country honorably in WWII. Paul was stationed on the 5th Fleet Ship U.S.S. Oberon and served in five invasions in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy and Southern France. He crossed the equator twice and retired from Martin-Marietta in 1987. Paul will be missed by those who knew and loved him including his siblings: Betty (Joe) Overstake of LeGrand, Robert Halverson of LeGrand, Lawrence Halverson of Marshalltown and Mary Lou (John) Mead of Marshalltown, son Scott Paul Augustine of Charles City, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family. In death, Paul rejoined his parents and brothers: Jerry in infancy, Edward and Elmer and sisters: Goldie (Frank) Peck, Madeline (Victor) Hawkins, Katherine (Robert) Bennett, Ida (Robert) Anderson and Dorothy (John) Hauser.
