Paul Lovig, 73, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away while surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a Memorial Gathering on(PLEASE NOTE DATE) Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Paul Jay Lovig was born on April 12, 1942, in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of James R Lovig Sr. and Wanda (Haskell) Lovig. Paul attended LeGrand Community School District and graduated from Marshalltown Community College in 1962. Paul went on to attend University of Iowa where he received his Juris Doctor Degree and was then granted admission to the practice of law in June, 1967. He was appointed Assistant City Attorney for Marshalltown in 1968 and progressed to City Attorney from 1974 through 1992. He had a private practice with the law firm Kemler, Lovig, and Bartine Law Offices in Marshalltown. Paul was delighted to engage in judging BBQ contests, golfing, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He had a love of dogs, cats and horses. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and former member of Ducks Unlimited. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Lisa (Scott) Schaefer of Barrington Hills, Illinois and Kathy (Samuel) Hughes of Purcellville, Virginia; grandchildren, Sarah and Ryan Schaefer and Jacob and Gabriel Hughes; siblings, Jim (Barb) Lovig of LeGrand, Iowa and Julie Lunn of Des Moines, Iowa. Paul is preceded in death by his mother and father.
