Paul Stoner, 87, longtime LeGrand area farmer and resident, died Thursday morning, May 3rd, at the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown. His death came peacefully at 6:55 a.m. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 7th, at the LeGrand Friends Church with Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating and former Pastor Ron Bryan sharing memories. He will be laid to rest in the LeGrand Friends Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born on February 24th, 1920, in Webster, Iowa, he was the son of Paul Linden and Gladys Gertrude (Hermanstorfer) Stoner. He graduated from the Mina, South Dakota Schools. On June 15th, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther Hoover at the LeGrand Friends Church parsonage. They resided in the LeGrand community all of their married lives where he farmed. Upon retirement, they moved to LeGrand until her passing on November 25th, 2004. In December 2004, he moved to the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown. Paul was an active member of the LeGrand Friends Church (serving on the building committee, trustee and Sunday school Superintendent) and the LeGrand Senior Citizens. Left to celebrate his life are his children: Elaine (Bill) Hand of Warsaw, Indiana, Garnet (Larry) Van Winkle of Monroe, Iowa, Howard (Margaret) Stoner of Troy, NY, and Alan (Janene) Stoner of Carlisle, daughter-in-law Janet Stoner, 13 dear grandchildren: Kevin, Lonny, Amber, Lyle, Nancy, Brandon, Corey, Carey, Shaely, Kelby, Tanner, Alyssa and Tad, nine precious great-grandchildren, his sisters: Betty (Daniel) McCandles of Brooksville, FL. And Mary (Nelvin) Robuck of Aberdeen, South Dakota, brothers Daryl (Oleta) Stoner of Ipswich, South Dakota and Robert (Helena) Stoner of Bismarck, ND, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, his beloved Esther, son Donald in 1994, brother Jack and grandson Brady.
