Paul Anthony Tremain, 54, of Marshalltown, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, September 19, 2021. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Born December 9, 1966 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, he was the son of Jack and Terry (Buerger) Tremain. The railroad was always a big part of Paul’s life. As a railroad kid, he and his family lived in several places, including his younger years in Shellsburg, Iowa and graduating from Westfield, Massachusetts. Upon his dad’s retirement from the railroad, they all decided to move back to Iowa and landed in Marshalltown. Due their special bond, Paul decided to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a railroad engineer. He and his family were incredibly proud of this accomplishment. The only thing Paul loved more than trains were his family. He was married to Kathy (Gepford) Bennington and they have provided unconditional love and support to their children and grandchildren. A devout family man with strong faith, he loved everyone he knew deeply and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He enjoyed cheering for the Hawkeyes and Green Bay Packers, as well as watching Cole the Cornstar. Paul loved gardening and took great pride in it. Left to cherish his memory is Kathy Bennington; his son, Jeff (Melissa) Tremain; daughters: Judy Mutton, April Gepford and Kristy Gepford; nine grandchildren: Kasie Brandt, Destiny Gepford, Melanie Brandt, MaKayla McNay, Jasmine Gepford, Elizabeth Gepford, Kaleigh Taylor, Ian Fikes and Allister Tremain; his parents, Jack and Terry Tremain; sister, Chris (Melvin) Richmond; brothers: Bill (Tina) Tremain and Chuck (Lynn) Tremain and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. In death, he is reunited with his grandparents.
