Born July 18, 1939 in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the youngest son of Elmer and Alma (Rosedale) Wolken. After graduating from Le Grand High School in 1957, he went on to study agriculture at Iowa State University. He also proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard.
Paul had three major passions in life: his family, his farm, and sports. He was united in marriage to Nancy (Cole) Steinman on July 30, 1977 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon. They continued to be lifelong members at Trinity, where they made many cherished friendships. Paul and Nancy made their home together on the family farm, where they raised their two kids and worked side by side caring for the farm.
Though his free time was few and far between, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and sports. He was an avid Iowa State fan. Paul’s love of sports began in his younger years, continuing into early adulthood playing baseball and slow-pitch softball. That love grew as he was blessed to support his own children in their various sporting events and later his grandchildren. Supporting his family and all their endeavors was one of his greatest joys in life.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy Wolken; his two children: Marci (Adam) Grant of rural Gilman and Curt Wolken, who continues the farming legacy on the family farm in Dillon; four grandchildren: Kaleb and Kaden Grant, and Amelia and Austin Wolken; and his brother, Ralph (Barbara) Wolken of Shady Shores, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents.
