Pauline Head

Pauline Head, 90, of the Tama/Toledo community, died Sunday morning, February 11th, at the Grandview Acres Care Center while in their care and the Iowa Hospice. Her death came peacefully at 10:05 a.m. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 16th, at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Rev. Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery north of Toledo. Friends may call at the church from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Born Pauline Zmolek on August 11th, 1916, in rural Toledo, she was the daughter of George and Agnes (Kubik) Zmolek. She attended the rural Toledo schools. In 1936, she was united in marriage to Riley Head. To this union, three daughters were born; Irma Jean, Sharon and Ila Jean. Pauline was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama and the Royal Neighbors. She was a familiar face in the Tama-Toledo area as she had worked for many years at Vons Buy-Lo and then Sun Mart, retiring at age 77. Many will also remember her for her tasty pies, traveling, gardening, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, family gatherings and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildrens ball games. She will be greatly missed by many. Mrs. Head became a member of the Grandview Acres family in March of 2006. Left to celebrate her life are her daughters: Sharon (Bud) Ewell of Norwalk and Ila Jean (Lonnie) Boerm of rural Toledo, grandchildren: Brent (Pam) Ewell of Pella, Michael Ewell of Des Moines, Traci (James) Kullmer of Blairstown, Dr. Kurt (Judy) Boerm of Traer, and Chris (Cara) Boerm of Forsythe, IL., nine great-grandchildren: Colleen, Scott, and Austin Ewell, Brendon and Mitchell Boerm, Conner and Callie Boerm and Katie and Ashley Kullmer. Also surviving are her sister, Marilyn (Richard) Stewart of Rockville, Maryland, brothers: Bill (Jean) Zmolek of Ames, Leon (Mary) Zmolek of Newton, Al (Joy) Zmolek of Elroy, WI, and Alan Bob (Sandy) Zmolek of Palm Springs, CA., as well an nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her husband who died in 1986, her daughter Irma Jean and sister Hattie (Ralph) Holtz.
