Pearl Ethel Hennis, 87, of the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, formerly rural Marshalltown, died early Sunday morning, November 29th, at the Grandview Heights. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 2nd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor David Klinge of St. John Lutheran Church at State Center officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Marietta Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Clemons Lutheran School. Born on April 24th, 1922, east of Clemons, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ben and Bessie (Clemons) Duffy, and the twin sister of her brother, Merle. She received her education in the area of her birth with the exception of a short time in Kansas, graduating from the Clemons High School Class of 1942. Mrs. Hennis was employed at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. On October 10th, 1942, she was united in marriage to Donald Dutch Hennis. They farmed all of their married lives on a farm in the Marietta Township NW of Marshalltown where Donald had been raised. Three sons were born to this union. Being on the farm was her life- she enjoyed farming and continued to help when her son Harold took over the farming operation. She preserved the harvest of a large garden andbrought delicious pies to family gatherings. She had resided the past 4 years at the Grandview Heights. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Harold of rural Marshalltown, Howard (Merikay) of Marshalltown, grandchildren: Leisha (Monte) Eaton of Marshalltown, Ryan (Cammy) Hennis of East Moline, IL, Regan (Susan) Hennis of Normal, IL, Evan Hennis of Urbandale, five great-grandchildren: Alex, Alivia and Owen Eaton and Eva Hennis and Clare Hennis, siblings- LaVerne Huseboe of Marshalltown, Luella Poe of Marshalltown, Charlotte (Harold) Lancaster of Scottsdale, AZ, Bernadell (Gilbert) Lilly of Marshalltown, Dale (Zola) Duffy of Iowa Falls, Helen Stonewall of Peotone, IL, Wallace (Shirley) Duffy of Casa Grande, AZ and John (Bernice) Duffy of Marshalltown, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death, she was reunited with her parents, husband Dutch (1988), son Raymond (1982), siblings- Glenn (Hannah), Marion (Edith), Clarence (Dorothy), Merle (Leota) and Bernadean Duffy and in-laws Merle Huseboe, Cleo Poe, Ozzie Stonewall.
