Peggy Shenkle

The joyous singing voice of Peggy Shenkle, 79, of Marshalltown, has now joined Heavens choir as she passed into their gates late Sunday night, November 20, 2016 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be on Friday, November 25, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa. Phone 641-844-1234 Born Peggy Jean Gould on September 19th, 1937, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of James and Alice (Small) Gould. She graduated from the Conrad High School in 1955 and later attended beauty school. On February 16, 1973 Peggy was united in marriage to Bill Shenkle they had resided in Saint Anthony, Iowa and then to Marshalltown. Peggy had many treasured roles in her life- wife, mom, grandma as well as companion, dear friend, music lover and her last occupation, Volunteer Director for Iowa River Hospice even after retirement she enjoyed working with the Bereavement part of Hospice. She had been a member of St Anthony Christian Church and then was a member of the 1st Congregational Church and participated in many music jams in the area with her dear friend and longtime companion, Herschel Brown. Left to cherish her memory are four children: Jeana (Aaron)Vradenburg of Ft. Madison, James Dean (Julie Jenny) Uhde of Cedar Falls, Janace (Aaron) Knapp of Rochester, NY and Renee Jolene (Zak) Dolash of Eldora; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, her special niece, Heidi Thompson and her devoted companion Herschel Brown, siblings: Lois Thompson of Iowa City. In death, she rejoined her parents, her husband, Bill, and siblings, Jerry Gould, Barbara McLean, Clifford Small.
