Peter Lunde

Peter Charles Lunde, 77, of Garwin, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at his home surrounded by family and under the care of the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services for Peter will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Peter Lunde was born on January 25, 1938 in Colo, Iowa to Paul and Mable (Brown) Lunde. After graduation from Colo High school, Peter enlisted in the United States Army from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. Later that year, he began his employment with the DOT Highway Division, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring in 2000. In the summer of 1958 Peter met the love of his life Carol Lannigan. On September 15, 1962, Peter and Carol were united in marriage at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown IA. They started their lives together in Marshalltown before calling Garwin home in 1971. The couple had 2 children together Kelli (Steve) Hall and Randy (Debbie) Lunde. Pete was a member of the Garwin American Legion Post 71. In his younger years Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting muskets. As he got older one of his greatest joys was taking road-trips with his dog Tucker, from Minnesota to Marshalltown the two were nearly inseparable. As the years went by his hobbies changed and were centered around yard work (especially mowing), Relaxing in his lazy-boy, and being a great Tuesday morning QB relaying all his thoughts on all the prior weeks ballgames. Peter is survived by his children: Kelli (Steven) Hall of Marshalltown and Randy (Debbie) Lunde of Gladbrook. Grandchildren: Kyle (Deena) Hall of Marshalltown, Kaitlin (Darin) Tool of New Providence and Kenan Hall of Marshalltown. Step grandchildren: Stacy Gudahl and Shannon (Brad) Dennler. Great grandchildren: Macie, Brynlee, Rylee (Kyle) and Chesney (Kaitlin). Step great grandchildren: Nicholas and Hannah. Sister: Janet (Dan) Geisler of Clive and brother in law Larry Hintz of Nevada, Iowa. Peter was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol, his parents Paul and Mable, sisters Gerri Melton and Lois Hintz and his beloved dog Tucker.
