Proud veteran and father Philip “Phil” Terpenning, 74, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service for Phil will take place on Tuesday, June 1 at 2:00 P.M. at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery in Marshalltown. Military honors for Phil will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard of the surrounding area. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Honor Flight Network. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Phil and his family. Born Philip Eugene Terpenning on March 31, 1947 in Alton, Illinois, he was the son of Ogle and Virginia (Irvin) Terpenning. Immediately following his graduation from Muscatine High School in 1966, Phil was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served for two years during the Vietnam era, where he received a purple heart for his sacrifice and bravery. Upon his return, he attended Muscatine Community College. A hard worker, Phil worked in industrial construction followed by ten years in maintenance at Heinz Co. He was blessed with three children as a result of his two marriages, first to Pam Poggemiller and later to Deb (Skinner) Streger. In his free time, Phil loved hunting and bass fishing. He especially enjoyed taking his kids fishing when they were young and participating in fishing tournaments. Those left to cherish his memory are his children: C.W. (Linzi) Terpenning and Kim (Russ) Brossart, both of Muscatine; grandchildren: Chloe and Trey Terpenning, Mackenzie (Jeremy) Meyer, Nash Jones and Eleanor Elizabeth Terpenning; great-granddaughter, Brynlee Meyer; his brother, Dan Terpenning; special aunt, Connie and several other relatives. Phil is preceded in death by his son, Cody Terpenning; grandson, Cody Geertz and his parents.
