Dr. Phillip Collins, 89, of Marshalltown, Iowa, died Thursday, October 7, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at First Friends Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dr. Collins and his family.Phillip L. Collins was born on August 22, 1921 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Leonard F. and Mina C. (Steelman) Collins. Phil attended Marshalltown Schools graduating with the class of 1939. He then attended and graduated from Central Iowa Business College. Phil was in the Air Force for 3 years achieving the rank of Captain; he piloted a B 17 and flew 35 missions over Germany. Phil then attended Logan Chiropractic School in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating in 1949. In 1942 Phil married Nadine Reaugh at First Friends Church in Marshalltown and they lived all of their married life in Marshalltown. Phil worked at Marshalltown Manufacturing after Business College before entering the service. Phil had his Chiropractic office in Marshalltown from 1949 to 1987. Phil was a past member of the Elmwood Country Club, life time member of U.S. Airforce 91st Bomb Group, 50 year member of both the American Legion and The Lions Club, also Phil was a birthright member of the Quaker Church. He enjoyed golfing, woodcarving, enjoyed working with stained glass, woodworking, and also volunteered in his community for Meals on Wheels every Friday for years and visiting people in nursing homes.Left to cherish Phils memory is his wife of 68 years, Nadine of Marshalltown, sons: Mike (Joan) Collins and Kent Collins both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren: Andrew (Jenny) Collins of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and William Collins of Chicago, Illinois; he was expecting his first great-grandchild in December, and he is also survived by a multitude of friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Shirley Erlandson Bru.
