Phillip Goodman

Philip Grant Goodman passed away on Tuesday September 8th, 2026 at Harmony Nursing Home of Marshalltown.

Phil was born to Larry and Helen (Callahan) Goodman on September 12th, 1941. He grew up on the family farm in Haverhill, IA with his parents and three sisters. He followed in his father’s footsteps by playing the saxophone in the band. Phil developed an early interest in cars and motorcycles, which led him to owning and drag racing a Corvette.

Following high school, Phil attended AIB College of Business in Des Moines, IA and studied the newly emerging field of computer science. Upon graduation, he obtained a position as a computer operator at Lennox Industries. His intelligence and dedication resulted in a series of promotions to management positions, and he ultimately relocated with Lennox to Plano, Texas in 1978. After retiring from Lennox Phil started Perfection Landscape Service and enjoyed working outdoors for many years.

Phil lived and worked in Plano, TX until recently returning to Marshalltown. He was very active at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Plano. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and Indiana Fever, and watching all types of car racing. Phil and his life partner, Yvonne Ricketts enjoyed more than 30 years together and loved traveling and weekly card games with their dear friends Gary and Vicki Oetker.

Phil is survived by his three daughters Jami Meilahn, Melissa Sargent, Jull Thorman; his many grandchildren; his sisters Marilyn Naughton and Laurie Nusbaum; his nieces and nephews; Scott Ricketts and his sister Beth Putnam and the whole Ricketts family who became a bonus family to Phil.

In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his sister Angela Frye and his brother-in-law Rudy Frye.
