On May 16, 1954, she was united in marriage to Tom Charlier at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. At the time she was working at Marshall Ice Cream where she had spent 5 years happily employed. She was the proud mother to six children, Tom, Patty, John, Mary, David, and Mark. As her family grew, they became the number one priority in her life and she made her career taking care of her family. In 1973, she began working for Kiowa in Marshalltown where she would work as a machinist for 29 years and was a proud accomplishment of hers. In 1978, Tom passed away. On July 18, 1980, she was united in marriage to Robert Miller at the Central Christian Church. They remained married until Robert’s passing in 2018.

Out of the many hobbies that she had, Phyllis was always known to have an immaculate yard free of weeds and the lawns always neatly trimmed and cut. She enjoyed baking and was well known for many cherished family recipes but as her kids had stated was that she made the best divinity at the holiday times. She was creative in the kitchen and loved feeding anyone who came to visit.
