Ralph Burg

Ralph Burg, 77, of St. Anthony, died Thursday morning, August 16, 2007, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with cremation rites to follow. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Ralph and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234 Born on January 8, 1930, at home in Collins, Iowa, he was the son of Frank and Anna (Rothmeyer) Burg. He graduated from St. Anthony High School. He served our country honorably in the United States Army from March 1951 to December 1952. In June 1978, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Marshalltown, he was married to Dixie Gummert, and they made their home in St. Anthony. Ralph was employed at Marshalltown Instruments until closing, and Mackin Grain in St. Anthony. He was a member of the American Legion. He had been mayor and council member of St. Anthony Ralph enjoyed hunting and fishing, being outdoors, cutting wood, mowing grass, and will fondly be remembered for his willingness to always help others. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife, Dixie, his children: Shelly (Doug) Kerchner of Loveland, Ohio, Sharon (Dave) Lepsic of Hain City, Florida, Mick (Shelly) Burg of St. Anthony, Becky (Don) Fuller of Maxwell, Iowa, and Warren (Wendy) Gummert of LeGrand; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, his sister, Lillian Knutson of Ames, and several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, his brothers: Wayne, Virgil, John and Charles; and his sisters, Elizabeth and Deloris.
