Ralph was drafted into the United States Army where he was trained as a helicopter electronics technician. Upon his discharge, Ralph worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a machinist until his retirement in 2008. On January 31, 1970, Ralph was united in marriage to his wife Sandra Gersdorf in Missouri. The two resided on a farm outside of Marshalltown and were blessed with four children of their own. Ralph then returned to Iowa and called Montour home after the passing of his wife Sandy in 2002. In his free time, Ralph loved to collect antiques and attend various auctions. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, working on various projects in his shop, tending to his garden, and working on crossword puzzles. Not only could he fix everything he encountered, he always found a way to teach life lessons whether you wanted to hear it or not. He was a man of few words, but was able to teach so many. He was most loved for his big heart and willingness to help anyone. Left to remember his memory are his children Brandon (Christy) Kadner, Mikki Kadner, Benjamin (Meghean) Kadner, and Casey (Jessica) Kadner; eight grandchildren Dylan, Colby, Kaia, DeLainey, Norah, Taliegh, Peyton, and Alyssa Kadner; and his siblings Stella Flebbe and Gus Wayne Kadner. In death Ralph is rejoined with his wife Sandy; his parents Rudolph and Alice; and his brother John Kadner.
