Randall “Randy” E. Hartwig, 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on February 09, 2019 at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines with his family at his side. A memorial service for Randy will be held on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Henry Catholic Church with Father Don Czapla officiating. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a vigil beginning at 7:00 p.m. For more information or to send a condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Randy and his family. Randy was born November 21, 1952 to Robert “Bob” and Rosella Hartwig (Kunkel) in Marshalltown, Iowa. Randy graduated high school and continued his education at Marshalltown Community College. After school he worked at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa, for 21 years before working for Marshall County Road Maintenance for more than 20 years, from where he later retired. On September 11, 1982 Randy married his wife, Marlene (Kovarik), at the First United Methodist Church. With the boat radio handle name, “Papa Hawk,” Randy enjoyed spending weekends fishing and camping at Lake Rathbun. He held a variety of other hobbies including: hunting, woodworking, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, bowling, Iowa Hawkeye football, and spending time with family and friends in his garage workshop. Randy was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Marshalltown. Left to cherish Randy’s memory are his wife Marlene; daughter Tena (Simon) Mueller; one granddaughter on the way; siblings Ronnie (Mary) Hartwig, Rosanne (Dan) Anderson, Ricky Hartwig, Raelene (Mike) Sommerlot, Robbie Hartwig, Renae (Steve) Williams; 2 aunts; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great- great nieces and nephews; and his loving canine companion, Hocha. In death, he rejoins his parents Robert “Bob” and Rosella; mother- and father-in-law, Vernon and Shirley Kovarik; and several aunts and uncles.
