Ray Thompson, 94, passed away on October 27, 2015, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. For condolences or question please visit: www.mitchellfh.com . Thompson was born on May 23, 1921, at the Grinnell Hospital in Grinnell, Iowa; he was the son of Ollie (Stewart) and Cyrus Thompson, and he was the oldest of 13 children. Ray attended school in the Malcom Community School District and got his degree from Malcom thru the VA. Ray served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945 and in that time he received 5 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Metal and a Distinguished Unit Badge. Ray farmed for a few years and drove a truck and then went to work for Fisher Controls until his retirement. Ray loved to tinker and is always busy; he was always going for a drive and visiting friends. Left to cherish Rays memory are his children: Louann (Raye) Heinle of Laurel, Iowa, Kenneth (Beverly) Thompson of Laurel, Iowa, William (Connie) Thompson of Newton, Iowa, Delbert (Val) Thompson of Alabama, and 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild and 7 siblings: Oral, Ole, Virgil, Bob, Wanda, Velda and Verna. In death Ray rejoins his parents, Cyrus and Ollie and 5 siblings.
