Raymond T. Gerdes, 79, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Memorial services for Raymond will be held on Saturday, December 15th, 2018 at First Congregational Church. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. with the services following at 11:00 a.m. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Raymond and his family. For more information or to send condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Raymond Gerdes was born on June 20, 1939 in Buffalo Center, Iowa to Ted and Minnie Honken Gerdes. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. On February 7th, 1965, Raymond was united in marriage to Marian Broesder at the Good Hope Methodist Church in Lone Rock, Iowa. Raymond had previously worked for the Algona Police Department as well as the Marshalltown Police Department and then went on to work for UPS, where he retired after 25 years. Raymond liked to play cards, watch western movies, go fishing, travel, and was an avid keychain collector. Raymond is survived by his wife, Marian, of almost 54 years. Daughter: LaRae (Troy) McGahuey of Marshalltown and their two daughters Raelene and Raechel. Daughter: Shauna Banks of Marshalltown and her two daughters Natasha and Kali. He is also survived by his siblings: John Gerdes of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Betty Johnson of Blue Earth, Minnesota and Freda Haag of Garner, Iowa. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Minnie and brother Harold Gerdes.
