Ray Miller, 71, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at Mary Greely Hospital in Ames, Iowa, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the funeral home.Please dress casual for Ray's celebration. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorials Gardens in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #839 and by American Legion Post in the Marshalltown area. Raymond Edwin Miller Jr. was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on March 5, 1945; he was the son of Raymond and Bernadine (Hastie) Miller. Ray grew up and attended school in the Green Mountain Community School District. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967, the Army Reserves form 1967 until 1971and continued to serve in the National Guard from 1978 until 1997. On June 1, 1969, Ray was united in marriage to Marilyn Kay Schroyer at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown. They had lived in Marshalltown their entire married lives. He had worked at a farm from the age of 14 and was forever a farmer in his heart, he worked at KIOWA and retired after 39 years of service and also worked on farms in the Green Mountain area and Koch LP. Ray was a member of the UAW, Shop Committee and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, making signs and yard ornaments, fishing, Country Music, car racing, and loved to visit with others. Left to cherish Rays memory is his wife of 47 years, Marilyn, daughters, Christine Kay and Stephanie Lynn all of Marshalltown, Iowa, sisters Shirley Hayne and Betty Perry. In death Ray rejoins his parents, Ray and Bernadine and brother, Bobby Miller.
