Raymond Stevens

Raymond (Ray) Earl Stevens, 79, of State Center died June, 20, 2009, at Hampton Health Care Center in Hampton, Iowa. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m.Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234 Raymond was born on June, 25, 1929 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Cyril Asa and Hannah (Woods) Stevens. He attended school in Parkersburg, Iowa. Ray served our country honorably in the United States Navy in the Seabees for four years. On November, 29, 1947, in Ft. Smith, Virginia, he was united in marriage to Louise Lader. They made their home in Marshalltown and State Center area most of their married lives. Raymond had been a meat cutter at Cliftons in Marshalltown and worked for Fisher Controls for 29 years, retiring in January of 1991. He was a member of the local UAW #893. He loved to hunt, boat, snowmobile, raise his huge garden, enjoyed the farm life and enjoyed traveling and his trips to Canada. Left to cherish his life are his wife of 61 years, Louise, of State Center, daughters Linda (Sam) Rotolo and Doris (Chris) Bonell both of Washington State, her grandchildren, Ron Stevens of Osage, Iowa, Kristi (Cliff) Yates of State Center, Jesse (Tara) Berstler, of Ames, Ashley (John) Motley of Oregon and Erin Folk of Albuquerque, New Mexico, brother Merl (Dixie) Stevens of Unionville, Iowa, and many cousins. In death, he rejoins his parents, Asa and Hannah Stevens, and a sister who died at birth.
