Reita Ann Acord

Reita Ann Acord, 83, of State Center, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024 at the Iowa River Hospice home after a long battle with heart failure.

Services for Reita will take place on Monday, September 23 at 10:30 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in State Center. Friends and family are also invited to attend a visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 22 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed in Reita’s name to Iowa River Hospice, the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Reita was born January 12, 1941 in Iowa City, Iowa to parents Donald Triplett and Berneda Goette. While working at Bernie’s Tap, she met the love of her life, Willie Acord. The couple was blessed to celebrate 55 years together just before Reita’s passing. In addition to her hard work and dedication to her family, Reita held several jobs over the years, including work at Marshalltown Instrument, Marshall County Home and OJ’s Diner. She was also a member of the UAW Retirees and the Red Hat Society for many years. In her free time, Reita enjoyed stamping-up, bird watching, cooking and baking.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Willie; her two daughters: Cindy (Rick) Ward of State Center and Tammi (Rusty) Ryan of Chester, MD; daughter-in-law Ann Paxson; grandchildren: Matt (Paula) Ward, Misty (Tom) Wengert, Andrew Paxson, Jared Paxson, Sommer (Mike) Faro, Jonathon Paxson and Katelyn Paxson; and several great-grandchildren.

Reita is reunited in death with her parents, son Jeffrey Paxson, grandson Forrest Ryan, and her three sisters and their spouses: Sharon and Ronnie Richeson, Sharla and Wayne Funke and Sandra and Charles Zgonce.
