William Donovan Morrison was born on February 2, 1948 in Lexington, Kentucky. He was the son of Reverend William Woodrow and Edith Lorraine (Erickson) Morrison. On June 7, 1968 he was united in marriage to Cynthia O’Dell in Fargo, North Dakota; officiated by Don’s father. Don graduated from Jamestown High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, and he received his Master of Divinity degree from Claremont School of Theology. Don served his country honorably in the US Air Force from 1968 to 1972. Don was a member of Toastmasters, Lions Club, Rotary, and the Clarion Choralaires for several years. He was an elder in the United Methodist Church for almost 40 years where he served 13 perishes across Iowa. A highpoint of Don’s working career was the year he and Cindy spent in Bermuda while Don served the Centenary Methodist Church there. Throughout their working career, Don and Cindy shared a passion for the ordained ministry and were able to jointly officiate the weddings of both of their sons and the baptisms of all three granddaughters. In his free time, Don enjoyed camping, being outdoors, golfing, woodworking, and astronomy. He truly epitomized the phrase “Jack of All Trades, Master of None”.
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years Rev Cindy Morrison, children, Donovan (Debra) Morrison of Waukee, Matthew (Ruzan) Morrison of Marshalltown, and his three granddaughters, Katherine, Anessa, and Liana Morrison. He is also survived by siblings Dwayne (Betsy) Morrison of Rockland, Maine, and Denise Cantillon of Oceanside, California, along with several nieces and nephews. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Rev William and Edith Morrison and brother-in-law Eddie Cantillon.
