Rex Delos DeLay, 61, of Marshalltown died Friday February 20th, 2009 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. A celebration of Rexs life will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25th at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. There will not be a visitation. Born in Sioux Falls, SD on April 14th, 1947, Rex was the son of John and Doris (Andrews) DeLay. Rex attended school in Sioux Falls. He then joined the Navy and honorably served during the Vietnam War. On May 3rd, 1969 Rex was united in marriage to Yvonne Dianne Orr in Marshalltown, where the couple made their home. He later graduated from Marshalltown Community College. Rex worked at Swifts following his Navy service. He then worked many years as an auto and truck body technician, and later at the Iowa Veterans Home power plant. Rex was a past member of the American Legion. He liked to go hunting, fishing, and camping. Rex also enjoyed motorcycling, having been a motocross racer in his younger years. He loved all animals, especially horses, cats, and dogs. Rex was an avid reader of anything he could get his hands on. He will be greatly missed by his family, and countless friends. Left to celebrate Rexs life, and cherish his memory, is his loving wife Dianne, his son Richard of Marshalltown, his daughter Yvonne (Ron) Morris of Horse Branch, KY, his sister Mary Ann Kjergaard, his sister Eunice Allen, and his brother Bill DeLay. In death, Rex has rejoined his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.
