Richard Andrew Allen, 84, of Marshalltown, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard Allen was born on July 7, 1930 in Marshalltown to Lester and Clara Nelson Allen. Richard graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949. Richard joined the United States Air Force and served his country from 1950 until 1959. In July of 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Anita Doran and had three children, Mona, Lisa and Doug. Richard worked at Marshalltown Trowel Works for twenty eight years until his retirement. Richard was a union member and belonged to UAW Local 893. He loved to read his bible and spread the gospel. Richard also liked to bird watch and was an avid singer. He was a lifelong member of Elim Lutheran Church and custodian for many years there as well. He was also involved in the choir. You would even find Richard out grocery shopping in his RV motorhome. Above everything else, Richard enjoyed the time spent with his family. Richard is survived by the mother of his children, Anita Allen. Children: Mona (William) Bass of Ogden, Kansas, Lisa Smith of Gillette, Wyoming and Doug (Melinda) Anderson of Florida. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Sisters: Helen Dixon of Des Moines and Mary Lou (Randy) Ramirez of California and numerous nephews and nieces. Richard is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Clara and six siblings.
