Richard Dick Bennett, 80, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday, February 19th, at his home while in the care of his loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 22nd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Born on December 26th, 1927, on Doty Street in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of Loren Glenn and Florence Bell Bennett. He received his education in Marshalltown and graduated from the Granger, Missouri High School in 1946. Richard and his wife, Fern, were married on April 21, 1951. They made their home in Marshalltown where Richard began his career in the tool room at Marshalltown Instruments before working his way up to plant manager. After moving with the company to Oshkosh, Nebraska, Richard retired from Marshalltown Instruments. He also retired from the Iowa Army National Guard after 39 years in 1987. Upon retiring, he pursued his love of woodworking by opening Woodcrafters where he created many beautiful pieces for the people and the community of Oshkosh. Richard was very active in the Oshkosh community in the Chamber of Commerce, the City Council for 19 years, and serving as Mayor for two terms. Dick treasured his family and friends and enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and reading. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Denise (Mark) Hulse of Richmond, Texas, and Curt (Lindi) Bennett of Marshalltown, his grandchildren: Amber (Dannie) Stanley of Muncie, Indiana, Cassie (Pat) Riley of Newton, Iowa, and Eric Hulse of San Antonio, Texas., great-grandchildren: Elijah Stanley and Jonah Stanley, his twin Robert (Maxine) Bennett of Ethel, Missouri, brother John (Gloria) Bennett of Marshalltown, sister Florence (Bob) Easton of St. Anthony and sister Louise Rockhold of Keokuk, Iowa as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, his wife Fern and one brother, Charles.
