Richard Brownie Brown, age 74, of Marshalltown passed away on the morning of Friday, June 10th, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice home. His family extends their deepest appreciation for the care they received from Iowa River Hospice and Iowa Home Care it will not be forgotten. A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Please come in casual attire. Born on May 29th, 1942, in Marshalltown, he was one of six children born to Charles James Brown, Sr. and Maybelle (Craig) Brown. Brownie was first married to Margaret Backoff and together they were blessed with three children- Julie, Annette, and Rick. Later, he married Vera Curl and together they had Craig. Brownie was a hardworking man who was employed with Gene Strohm Construction and Swifts. He also treasured his time off, going hunting or fishing with friends Mark, Ron and Vern, playing pool, watching the races (especially Knoxville Sprint Car races), and spending time with family, friends and his dog, Dude. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Julie (Gary) Zurinski of Peru, IL, Annette (Steve) Hayworth of Peoria, IL., Rick Brown of Peoria, IL., Craig (Michelle) Brown of Marshalltown and Jason Nauman of Marshalltown, as well as seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister Jayne (Dusty) Rhoads of Walker, IA, and brother Mike of Union, IA. In death, he rejoined his wife Vera, his parents, and brothers Jim, Jack and Jerry.
