Richard Buchanan

Richard Buchanan went safely into the arms of Jesus on August 7, 2018. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Condolences can be sent to www.Mitchellfh.com or call (641)-844-1234.Richard was born on September 10, 1939 to Ward and Kathryn (Gibson) Buchanan in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from Le Grand High School in 1959. Richard honorably served his country in the United States Army, returning to Marshalltown to work at Fisher Governor where he retired after 50 years of service.  On July 5, 1998 Richard was united in marriage to Linda Huston. Dick and Linda purchased 16 acres in 2002, built a barn for Linda’s horses, and began construction of their new home, where they have lived for the last 12 years.  Dick loved to mow and work on the acreage.  He and Linda loved to spend time on the front porch enjoying sunsets and the amazing view. He also enjoyed their frequent trips to Nashville to enjoy time with his children and grandchildren. Richard touched many lives and will be missed by his family and friends. When people asked how he was, he always responded, “Livin’ the dream.”Left to cherish Dick’s memory are his wife Linda Huston; children Toni (Chris) Kenner, Huston Callaway, Jordan (Lacey) Callaway, Bryce (Misty) Callaway and Micah (Joe) Loney; also grandchildren: Carson, Cooper, Alana, Lindsley, Adelaide, Lincoln and Hazel; and siblings Nancy (Lyle) Matney and Mary Margret Egleston.Richard is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara.
