Richard "Butch" Krough

Richard “Butch” Krough, 83, passed away on August 3, 2022 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, after a lengthy battle with stomach cancer. Memorial services for Butch will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Butch was born on September 29, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Leslie Krough Sr. and Alberta (Lawrence) Krough. He attended the one room school house, Saylor Marion #8 and graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1956. Butch worked at Garwin Lumber during and after high school. Butch was drafted into the United States Army in 1961 and served for 2 years and was trained as a truck driver. He was united in marriage to Vivian Krumm in 1961 in Gilman, Iowa and they later divorced. They had four children; two sons and two daughters. After the Army, Butch made his residence in Marshalltown. He worked at Marshall Pack and also hauled meat. Butch started at Swifts in 1966 in the maintenance department until his retirement in 2000. In his later years at Swifts, he supervised the tech maintenance department. On July 7, 2007, Butch was united in marriage to Linda Giannetto in Dallas Center, Iowa. They made their home in West Des Moines where Butch worked as a security guard at GMIVS. Butch enjoyed playing softball in his younger years and coaching his sons in baseball. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, coon hunting, auto racing, watching the Chicago Cubs and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda (Giannetto); children: Bryan Krough, Doug (Sandy) Krough, Tami Krough, Scott Giannetto and Jim Giannetto. Grandchildren: Shay (Kevin) Hunter, Brittany Krough, Cheyenne Choneska, Haley Heller, Doug Krough II, Josh Giannetto and Shauna (Jeremy) Schroeder. Twelve great grandchildren. Siblings: Dennis (Linda) Krough, Rex (Sue) Krough, Paul Krough, Mary (Jack) Carkhuff, Randy (Judy) Krough and Carroll (Patty) Krough. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; step parents, Ruth Krough and Tim Eash; siblings: Fred Krough, Geraldine Krough, Ester Kester, Ted Krough, Tom Krough, Connie Lage and Jim Eash; daughter Patti Krough; granddaughter Clarissa Hoing and grandson, Nick Giannetto. .
