Richard Dwight Davis, 74, a resident of State Center, joined his Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the State Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 28th, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in State Center. He will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Richard and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Born May 29, 1933, Richard was the son of Ivan Richard and Maxine (Frohwein) Davis. He was raised in rural State Center, graduating from State Center High School in 1951. Richard was a lifelong member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church. On March 16, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara Lee Scaddan. Having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the Harlan G. Pfantz Post 122 of the American Legion. Following his service, he returned to the family farm, raising six children with his beloved wife of nearly 50 years. He worked in Marshalltown as a Final Inspector for Fisher Controls for 34 years, retiring in 1994. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his children and grandchildren, as well as short trips to Branson, MO. His favorite past time was taking long rides in his old red Ford truck around the countryside meeting with his fellow farmers for coffee and a chat. He is loved and will be missed by all. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; five children, Peggy (Donald) Schmidt of Rhodes, Randy (Laura) Davis of Webster City, Linda Wittmayer of Las Vegas, NV, Gary (Jill) Davis, Las Vegas, NV, and Paula West of Unionville, MO; eleven grandchildren; five great -grandchildren; one brother, Ronald (Beverly) Davis, Marshalltown; and one sister, Reba Davis, Marshalltown. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tamara, and brothers Roger and Rodney.
