Richard Drury, 85, of State Center, formerly Marshalltown, entered into the loving arms of Jesus at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, at the State Center Nursing and Rehab Center.Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel, 104 W. Main Street, in State Center. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the service time. His colleagues from the State Center American Legion Post #122 will present the flag. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the West Marshall High School music department. Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel is caring for Richard. Ph. 641-483-2900.Born on September 24, 1927, in Marshalltown, Richard was the youngest of seven children and the son of Wesley and Liticia Drury. He served our country honorably in the United States Army after WWII and near the time of the Korean Conflict. He was stationed mainly in Japan.Upon his return to the states, he drove a truck in California and was a member of the Teamsters Union and the Maple Leaf Singers (a group dedicated to keeping jazz alive). Richard played in Big Bands in the 1950s and was in many movies by MGM. Being a resident of the Hollywood area, he became familiar with many stars and was a friend of Gene Kelly.Surviving are his best friend and guidance, Judy Collier Moore of State Center and her family.
