Richard Franklin

Richard Franklin, 75, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023 at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown.

Services for Richard will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 beginning at 1:30 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. Memorials in Richard’s name may be directed to the family for a later designation. Richard William Franklin was born June 19, 1947 to parents William and Verla (Phelps) Franklin in Marshalltown, Iowa. He grew up in Marshalltown and attended school. He later graduated from Marshalltown High School.

In 1969, Richard was united in marriage to Karen Minor. He worked for Fisher controls out of high school and made a career there until he later retired. In his free time, Richard loved to travel with Karen, go for boat rides, take out the snowmobile and going fishing. He was an active man and ran many marathons throughout the years. He loved to spend time with his close and extended family.

Richard is survived by his three siblings; his eight nieces and nephews; alongside numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Karen; his parents William and Verla Franklin; his mother and father-in-law, Orval and Elsie Minor; his son-in-law Randy Stevens; and sister-in-law, Marlene Needs.
