Born on March 22, 1943, in Dubuque, Iowa, he was adopted by Salem and Frances Sis Jamell. He was raised in Marshalltown and attended St. Marys High School. On October 1, 1960, Dick was united in marriage to Connie Jo Weaver at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. They made their home in Marshalltown where he worked at Fisher Controls, and for the past 30 plus years, was owner and operator of Dicks Concrete in Marshalltown. Dick was also a certified auctioneer, a Marshall County Deputy Sheriff under the direction of Bud Gonzales, and a HAM radio operator. He enjoyed fishing, antique car and gun shows, hunting, trips to his winter haven in the Florida Keys, time with his family, and many more hobbies. Dick was a member of the Antique Car Club of America, Marshalltown Area Restorers Club, Good-Guys, and co-founder of Central Iowa Snowriders, as well as serving as a car judge for Oktemberfest. He was a happy man when he could watch old westerns, Star-Trek, or NASCAR with his dogs, Baby Jo and Pixsie Jo, on his lap. Many will remember Dicks jokes and stories. Being an animal lover, Dick brought home a variety of pets over the years. Left to cherish his memory are Connie Jo, his loving wife of 54 years; his children: Jamie (Rick) Carlund of Lynchburg, Virginia, Jerry Dean Jamell, and Timothy Lee Jamell, both of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren: Jessica (Alan) Burgess of Waverly, Bobbie (Tim) Stern, and Billi Jo Jamell of Marshalltown, Jennifer Sealine of Des Moines, Jared Sealine of West Des Moines, Ciera Carlund of Lynchburg, Virginia, Josh Jamell of Marshalltown, Jessica Carlund, and Kara Carlund of Phoenix, Arizona; and seven precious great-grandchildren and one on the way.
