Richard W. Jones

Richard W. Jones, 90, died Thursday, December 24, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial services forRichard will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 29, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. For further information please call (641) 844-1234.Richard was born October 1, 1920, in Marshalltown, the son of Arthur and Lillian Jones. Richard attended the Marshalltown School System and graduated in 1938 from the Marshalltown High School. During World War II, from 1942 1946, he honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Marines, on March 16, 1946, Richard was united in marriage to Bernadine Buschbom at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Richard went on to attend and graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1948. Following his college graduation, Richard was a teacher at the Marshalltown Senior High School from 1949 -1984. He taught several students as the Drivers Education teacher. Richard was also the Safety Director of the Keokuk School System. Throughout his career he received several National, State and Local Awards for excellence in teaching. Richard is survived by his son Allen Jones of Des Moines, his brothers Roger and Randall and his nieces Debbie and Tracy and nephew Stephen.Richard was preceded in death by his wife Bernadine in September of 2008.
