Richard King

Richard Eugene King, 75, of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 surrounded by family at the Iowa Veterans Home.

Funeral services for Richard will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Pastor Gene Kubli officiating. Visitation and luncheon will be one hour prior beginning at 12:00 P.M. He will be laid to rest following the services at Colo Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard was born on June 29, 1948 in Marshalltown. He was the son of Charles Clifton “Cliff” and Marjorie (Wilson) King. After graduating from Colo High School in 1967, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Richard worked for Fisher Controls as an assembler beginning in 1967 and until his retirement in 2003.

Richard married Linda Trehey in 1981and together had two boys, Joseph and Michael. They divorced in 1993. On July 14, 1995, Richard was united in marriage to Marilyn Hanlin in Marshalltown. Together they ran a daycare and helped raise Andy Zheng, who was like a son to them.

Richard loved “tinkering” and always kept his hands busy. He enjoyed Maytag gas engines and washing machines, leather crafts, model trains, and building models.

Richard is survived by his wife of 29 years, Marilyn; children: Joseph (Rebecca) King of Toledo and Michael King of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Karen Sackett of Minnesota; and his grandchildren: Braden, David, Amillianna, Aaden, Athena and Aurora King.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Cliff and Marjorie and brother, Larry King.
