Richard Lewis Lyman, 77, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of the Marshalltown/Tama area, stepped into heaven on October 30, 2017, at Fleur Heights Care Center in Des Moines. Richard Dick Lyman was born on August 25, 1940 at the Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Evan and Margaret (Calloway) Lyman. Dick attended school in the Union-Whitten Community School District graduating with the class of 1959. On November 12, 1960, in Union, Iowa he married his life-long love, Alice Aswegan. They spent most of their lives living in the Marshalltown/Tama area where they raised four sons, Jeff (Joni) Lyman of Pekin, Illinois, Dave (Stacey) Lyman of Clive, Iowa, Rod (Donna) Lyman of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Trent Lyman of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Dicks careers included working for Fisher Controls for 32 years, retiring in 1995, then driving semi-trucks for Warnell and PCI. His passion for much of his life was breeding and raising Black Angus cattle. His hobbies during his 57-year marriage to Alice included planting apples trees and tending garden. He was a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Jordon (Ryan) Hoover, Jenna (Shaun) Blake, Joelle (Matt) Henley, Megan (Brent) Hook, Nathan (Stasia) Lyman, and Dylan Lyman, Noah Mortell, Brayden Lyman, Saxon Lyman, Ariane Lyman and step-grandchildren, Garrett, Piper and Karstyn Blink. Besides his wife, sons and grandchildren, Dicks loving family legacy includes his mother, Margaret; siblings, Greg Lyman of Gifford, Iowa and Kim (Craig) Wymer of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and great-grandchildren: Adlee, Clara, Jack, Evan, Henry, Charlotte, Jonah, Lane, Caitlyn, Lyla, Colton, Aiden, Addison, Alexander, and Aysen. In death Dick walks with his father, Evan; brother, Bill Lyman; nephew, Brett Lyman; and in-laws, Floyd and Hilda Aswegan. Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa will be caring for Dick and his family with funeral services to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7th.
