Richard Mathews

Richard Lee Mathews, 70, of Marshalltown, died peacefully with his family around him at MMSC on Christmas Day, 2009. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29th, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Dale Batcheler officiating. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dick and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Richard was born on May 2, 1939, in Eldora to Louis and Dorothy (Pickering) Mathews. He helped on the family farm for several years. On August 22, 1959, Dick married LeAnn Boelman in Ackley. Dick worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power for 36 years. He loved all those that he worked with. When he retired, he spent his time fishing and sitting in his garage visiting with the neighbors. After a while, he started working for the City of Marshalltown at the city compost. He loved that job and he loved talking to all who went through the gate. He always said that he had a lot of compost friends. Dick is survived by his wife of 50 years, LeAnn of Marshalltown; his son Todd(Collette) Mathews and their children Daniel and Alexis, all of Marshalltown; his son Scott Mathews and his children Tyler, Alyssa, and Olyvia, all of Marshalltown; his sisters Alberta(Don) Myers of Marshalltown, Janet Shaver of Eldora, and Kay(Fred) Morlan of Kirksville, MO; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy and Roger Mathies; his brother-in-law Ron(Sharon) Boelman, brother-in-law Jay(Diana) Haynes, his sister-in-law Linda Karns; his mother-in-law, LaVera Boelman, whom he loved; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his dad and mom, his brother Bob, his granddaughter Bailey, his sister-in-law Donna Haynes, and his father-in-law Bill Boelman.
