Richard Dick Dean Mowrey, 53, of Garwin, Iowa died November 20, 2009 in Unionville, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Burial will be at the Brooklyn, Iowa cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family. Dick was born in Sigourney, Iowa on November 1, 1956 to Donald D. and Margaret (Harris) Mowrey. He graduated from BGM high school in 1974. In 1992 he married Chris Vajgrt in Marshalltown. They lived in Marshall County until 2008 when they moved to Garwin. Dick had been employed by Dickeys Prairie Home in Malcolm; He had owned a gun shop, Rifle and Reel in Brooklyn; had worked at The Eaton Company in Marshalltown and had been employed at Lennox from 1993 to the present. Dick belonged to the trap club, was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Dick loved his family and friends, was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, shooting prairie dogs, playing cards, and will be remembered as a hard worker, an early riser, for his sense of humor, and passion for barbequing and enjoying a Bud Light. Dick is survived by his wife, Chris, his children; Jenna (Eric) Sytsma of Winterset, Iowa; Brett Mowrey of Marion, Iowa; and Samantha Mowrey of Garwin, Iowa; his siblings Char (Lloyd) Seiler of San Antonio, Texas; Ben (Patty) Mowrey of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and Dot Provin of Grinnell, Iowa. Dick is also survived by many nieces and nephews, his extended family and close friends Dean, Phyllis and Heather Brittenham of Garwin, Iowa. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jim Mowrey, a great nephew Mason Brown and his father-in-law Harold Vajgrt.
