Richard Ritter Sr., 83, of Legrand, Iowa passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 12:00 until service time at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Please dress casual in memory in Richard. Richard Lavern Ritter Sr. was born in a farm house in Appanoose County on May 5, 1934; he was the son of Raymond and Lottie (Henderson) Ritter, he lived there for 14 years and then to the family moved to Davis County. On November15, 1954, he entered the Army and was stationed in Arkansas and Fort Riley Kansas where he went to 8 weeks of cooking school. Richard then transferred overseas to Bangburk, Germany for 1 year with the 1st Division then to 1st Division Fort Riley where he served the rest of 3 years and on November 16, 1957, he was honorably discharged. After returning from Germany, Richard was united in marriage to Wanda Rose Brown on March 7, 1957, to this union they were blessed with 4 boys, Richard Lavern Ritter Jr., of Legrand, Iowa, David Eugene(deceased at birth), Rodney Lavern (passed in 2005), and Terry Joe Ritter of Marshalltown, Iowa, grandchildren, Richard Ritter III, Felicia Ritter and Melesia Ritter all of Marshalltown, and great-grandchildren, Richard Ritter, Eric, Emma, Alec, Wyatt, William, Reagan, Xania, and Yasman, and 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Richard worked as a farm hand until 1974, and then for McCubbin Seed at Green Mountain and retired in 2004 at the age of 70. Richard enjoyed fishing, cooking, rifles, shot guns, and gardening. In death Richard rejoins his parents, Raymond and Lottie, his mother and father-in-law, 2 sons- David and Rodney, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
