Richard Thill

Richard “Rick” Thill, 69, of Rhodes, Iowa, passed away on the evening of August 16, 2024 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his children and under the care of Iowa River Hospice.

Per Rick’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services are planned at this time. A family led celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rick’s name may be designated to Iowa River Hospice. Richard Joseph Thill was born August 18, 1954 in Le Mars, Iowa. He was the third of ten children born to Roland and Elizabeth “Betty” (Bergfeld). He had his step father, Leonard Dannen who additionally raised him as he grew up after his father had passed. Rick grew up in Rhodes, Iowa and attended school at West Marshall in State Center. He graduated with the class of 1973 of West Marshall High School.

Rick raised four children, Joel, Jesse, Stefanie and Heather Skinner. He worked for ITWC in the maintenance department. He was a hard worker and was always the go to person about any work-related questions. He retired from ITWC in 2021. Even after retirement he always received questions from his old co-workers asking where things for the job were kept and he would gladly answer. He stayed active in his community and was involved with helping out with the youth rodeos. In his free time, he loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and then later years his Polaris Ranger. He enjoyed being able to work with horses on the farm and going to and participating in the Rodeos when he was able. Most importantly he loved to spend time with his family.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Joel (Amanda) Thill, Jesse (Amanda) Thill, Stefanie Thill and Heather Skinner; his grandchildren, Eve, Em and Averie Thill, Abby Snyder and Tyler Thill; his siblings, Cyril (Joy) Thill, Nancy Noftsger, Mary (Roger) Newland, Elizabeth “Beth” (Jim) Carlson, Janet Thill, Mark (Yang) Thill, Dee (Kent) Stern and Becky (David) Deemer; alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Roland Thill and Betty Dannen; his step-dad, Leonard Dannen; his sister in infancy, Maryann Thill; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and nephew, Kyle Borota.
