Richard 'Butch' Thorn

Richard Butch Thorn, 69, of State Center, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his loving family by his side. Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no formal services at this time. A private family burial will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Butch and his family. Richard Ellis Thorn was born on February 9, 1946, in State Center, Iowa, the son of Richard and Bernice (Davis) Thorn. He was raised and educated in the State Center School District graduating from State Center High School. Following high school, Butch honorably served his Country in the United States Navy. He had a passion for reading Western books and enjoyed the Rodeo. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings: Michael (Deb) Thorn, Doug Thorn, Janette (Bob) Oetker, Patricia K. Smith, Kathy (Doug) McElroy and Dean (Leah) Thorn. He is preceded in death by his dad; a niece Melissa; maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.
